Things to do in Esbjerg

About Esbjerg

Surrounded by the beautiful Wadden Sea National Park, Esbjerg is as beautiful as it is exciting. There is so much to about Esbjerg to sink yourself into! Whether you go for the views, the people or the many other attractions, you will have a great time in Esbjerg. This incredible harbour town sits proudly on the coast of the Jutland peninsula. The harbour is often full with life, and with summer temperatures averaging around 20 degrees Celsius, it is the perfect place for a summer bus trip!

Places of Interest in Esbjerg

There is no shortage of things to do in this Danish city. Boat tours, seal watching and relaxing on the beaches, why would you not take a FlixBus to Esbjerg?! Don’t worry if the weather isn’t on your side, there are plenty of indoor things to do as well. If traveling with the family, you must go to to ‘Svømmestadion Danmark’ (better known as the largest waterpark in Denmark). If your little ones aren’t too tired after a day of swimming, bring them to ‘The Fisheries and Maritime Museum’. They can get up close and personal with the seals, and learn amazing things about the marine life around Denmark.

Culture and History of Esbjerg

Esbjerg has maintained a lot of history from the second world war. Esbjerg played a large part in the war as it was the only harbour on the Westcoast of Denmark to defend against allied attack. Over a thousand bunkers were created during the war and many of these are now open to the public. It’s often necessary to ring ahead to book a visit to the bunker museum, but it is definitely worth it.

For the artists amongst you, the Esbjerg Art Museum is a must-see. It is well-known for its collection from the 20th century onwards. Mixing in the occasional exhibitions of international contemporary art, this museum fascinates locals and tourists alike. One thing you will notice in Esbjerg is the large-scale and unique art all over the city. “Man Meets the Sea” can be found by the harbour entrance. The meaning behind the sculpture is the purity of nature meeting mankind. It is quite a fitting meaning to the harbour town as a whole, and this is due to the feeling of true purity between the people and the beautiful place they call home.

Nightlife in Esbjerg

Relaxing with a beer in Esbjerg is well deserved after spending all day by the sea! The “Dronning Louise” is a very lively bar with a great range of beers. Plan ahead and you could join one of their regular whiskey tasting sessions. There is a very inexpensive nightclub open later in the night on the first floor, and there is music to suit all tastes.

For any students heading over to Denmark, we recommend “Smuthullet”. This oldschool American bar is run by students for students, and has everything you need for a good night! Jukebox, pool table, great staff and even better drinks promotions! Guaranteed a good night out here.
